Instead of the main route packed with headlamps and noise, your guide leads you along a quieter trail : steeper in some places, more beautiful in all of them. At the summit, volcanic vents steam gently as eggs and sweet potatoes cook beneath the earth. You eat breakfast watching the sky turn gold over the crater lake. By 9AM you're back at the base, before the heat and the crowds arrive.

Before the World Wakes Up
Your guide picks you up between 2:30 and 3:00 AM for the drive to the trailhead near Toya Bungkah. The mountain is quiet, the sky still full of stars. The ascent begins on a lesser-known path : narrower, wilder, and far from the main route. Your guide shares stories of the mountain and its traditions as you climb through the dark.
As dawn breaks, you reach the viewpoint. The crater lake glows below, Mount Agung rises in the distance, and the first light spills across the sky in shades of orange and gold. At the summit, volcanic vents do the cooking : eggs and sweet potatoes steamed by the earth itself, served as a warm Balinese breakfast.
The descent brings you back to the trailhead by mid-morning, carrying with you a sunrise most visitors to Bali never get to see.
